Broden was delighted to partner with Muirhall Energy to help Fairview School become more sustainable and restore an outdoor space — providing pupils with the opportunity to expand their learning.
Broden recently completed a full LED floodlight upgrade across all four courts at Perth Tennis Club. The works were completed within one week and carefully planned around the club's programme of league competition matches and community coaching sessions, helping keep disruption to a minimum while the upgrade was carried out.
The project involved replacing and electrically connecting the court lighting across all four courts, with 10 new floodlight positions in total. As access equipment was required on the playing surface, protecting the courts was an important part of the installation. Ply protection was laid across the access route before the cherry picker was brought onto the courts, allowing the works to be completed without damaging the surface. All work at height was carried out by IPAF-trained Broden operatives using the appropriate harnesses and PPE throughout.
Once the installation was complete, the new lighting was fully tested across all four courts. Average lighting levels of 509–533 lux were recorded, with all floodlights operational and strong uniformity across the courts. The finished installation was then checked by the lighting manufacturer before the final LTA lighting certificate was issued.
As well as improving the quality and consistency of the court lighting, the LED upgrade reduced the total installed lighting load from approximately 20kW to 10.8kW — a reduction of around 46%. That means the club now has a significantly lower electrical demand from the court lighting while still achieving average lighting levels of more than 500 lux across all four courts.
The project was supported by funding from The Gannochy Trust, helping Perth Tennis Club continue to invest in its facilities and improve playing conditions for members and the wider local community. Thanks also to MKM Perth for their support with the project, including helping coordinate with the lighting manufacturer and arranging the hire of the access equipment used during the installation.

The collaboration saw the two companies join forces to restore an off-grid solar panel and battery storage system that was first installed at the school in 2009. The upgraded system powers an external workshop building in the playground and enables it to have lighting and power throughout the year.
Broden approached Muirhall Energy in early 2025 with the proposal to work together on the project. Muirhall provided £3,200 funding for the materials needed to carry out the refurbishment, while Broden donated labour to install the new system and has committed to maintaining it at no cost to the school for the first year.

The solar panels have not been working for a while now so it is really great to have the woodwork shed up and working again for our young people to use. Our pupils will take great delight in being able to develop their creative skills again!"
